I don't think! You know what they've gone and done? In 'the wash'. At least, I think that's what they call it! It's when an election is called and all the Bills that are waiting to be passed in to law can't get passed unless the opposition play ball. And so in order that the Gambling Bill could get on to the statute book the government agreed to reduce the number of Regional Casinos from 8 to 1. I guess John Cryer was delighted because he had no sympathy for a Casino in Rainham either. But what a kick in the teeth from the Tories for the people of Hornchurch. The chances of Rainham getting that one casino are pretty poor and it seems that Blackpool could be in line for it. The reason, is that their MP is shouting out loud. 'We want it. We want it!' But from the Hornchurch Labour person there is only the sound of silence. Shame! But my dad says that it's not over until the fat MP sings. If he gets elected he says he'll be singing out loud. 'We want it in Rainham. We want it in Rainham and we've got a better claim!' My dad says that Rainham and Wennington and South Hornchurch would benefit big time from the regeneration that would flow from a Regional Casino. Several thousand jobs and £200 million investment in to an area that on the old maps is described as 'the shoot'. That's because they've been shooting their rubbish on to Rainham for hundreds of years and the habit seems to have stuck.

Hornchurch Jack at Home!

This is me. Chilling out before the election!

The Ugly, the Bad and the Good - It seems that there is to be an election in Hornchurch in the very near future. There's a right crowd of people expected to stand. Socialists, Conservatives, Conservationists, Butchers, UKIPs, Solicitors and other very nice people. And more are expected next week. But the front runner is my Dad. He's standing for the Residents' Association. The RA is very big in Havering. My Dad's also taller than the others (he's 6 foot and a half an inch), but not if Zed the Basket Ball coach stands. The Labour person has been very quiet about John Prescott's proposals to build hundreds of blocks of flats in the area. The locals hate the idea. The MP keeps shtum. He also says that he is not supportive of the Super Casino that Sun Leisure would like to build there. He says 'you can't trust big business', even though they would inject £200 million in to the Borough. I think he should consider what's best for his constituents and cast off his dogma.

The Conservatives' chap is smaller. But no one knows much about him except that he's one of those legal johnnies that charge £190 per hour for talking to you. He lives miles away. He suddenly appeared one day outside Elm Park tube station and the local press took his photograph. Since then, when ever 2 people join together in protest (and there's a photographer) - he's there! Nobody knows where he goes to at night! The Conservatives have got themselves in to a bit of bother locally. During the local elections in 2002 they issued leaflets castigating Labour for closing care homes. They said, 'Our old folk deserve better treatment than this. Conservative councillors have pledged to oppose Labour's cruel cuts!' Now that they're in control, guess what they are planning to do? Two elderly occupants of the Borough's Care Homes that Conservatives are planning to close, aided by the Action Committee's solicitor, are preparing to apply for a Judicial Review. The people in the homes voted Tory because they were told they would be protected. Now they feel they were betrayed. They say that the Conservatives secured their votes under false pretences. It seems that it might have been a dishonest deception. They believed what the Conservatives said. That was unwise. Pinky and Perky can't be trusted. That's why we're all voting for the Residents' Association. That's why we're voting for my Dad - Malvin Brown.
